3 Year Anniversary!

WordPress 3 Year Anniversary

Wow! I can’t believe I started blogging three years ago. A lot has changed in the time since I started this blog, including the reason I started blogging.

In the beginning, I created a blog with the idea that I would write about the things that were going on in the industry I was trying to enter… fundraising. Without successfully landing my dream job, and not having many experiences to write about, I did as many of us do with a blog when we are starting out, and that is to just let it lie.

Over the next two years my ideas about the blog evolved and I went through short spurts of new blogger excitement, but I continued to struggle to find my spot in the blogosphere. My writing frequency, and my site views struggled too. Discouraged but still determined to make this dead horse of a blog work, I decided to give it one last shot, so in early 2014 I decided to start sharing the photos I was taking.

On Jan, 15, 2014 I published a post called Hair May Come and Go, but Friendships Stay The Same, and I was suddenly hooked. I began publishing with more frequency, participating in the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenges, and commenting on other people’s blogs. The more I blogged, the more fun I had, and the more hooked I became. The hard work I’ve put into the blog has definitely started to pay off, particularly in 2014, and I don’t really consider those first two years as blogging time. But in reality, I guess I was technically blogging in that time, and when I look back on it I think I learned a lot about the process.

I have made a LOT  of great friends through this process, and I’m thankful for that. Blogging has been a tremendous creative outlet for me, and I love what I, and others on WordPress have created. This is such a fantastic, close nit community, and I am so grateful for all of you who have encouraged and motivated me along the way.

Happy Holidays! See You In 2015

blog christmas image

Hello everyone, it has been such a wonderful 2014 for me and this blog. Yes, the recognition I’ve received throughout the year has been fantastic for boosting my little ego, but I am most proud of the friends I’ve made around the world, and the tips, tricks and techniques I’ve learned from so many of you.

I am officially calling it quits for blogging in 2014, so from my family to yours, I’d like to wish each of you a safe and happy holiday and New Year. I’ll be back in January, camera in hand, and ready to take on the world.

1000 Followers… 1000 Thank You’s

This is just a quick post to say thank you one thousand times over, and because of you, I have surpassed the major blogging milestone of 1000 followers.

I began 2014 with a short list of resolutions, and one of those resolutions was to make the effort to take more photos. This blog began as a simple place to share some of those images, document what I had seen and learned, and to track my improvement… if I was to see any.

Instead, I have made terrific new friends in Norway, Australia, New Zealand, England, the United States, and here in Canada. I have found vibrant and friendly photo communities, and have been lucky enough to have been featured on Freshly Pressed, WordPress’ Hot Off the Press, been a guest blogger for the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge and on Leanne Cole’s photography blog.

I can honestly say that the reason I make images is because I am truly passionate about photography and the process that goes into taking my images from start to finish. But it is because of YOU, that I am driven to publish this blog and work hard to improve myself on WordPress.

Thank you one thousand times 🙂

Reader Poll – Your Say

For two weeks in April, I participated in the WordPress Blogging 201 series in an effort to improve my blog and find out how to grow my blogging community in ways other than have a post randomly selected to be Freshly Pressed. One of the assignments was to do a reader poll.

So, this post is dedicated to hearing from you and listening to what you want to see (or don’t want to see) on my blog in the future. The thing I love most about blogging is connecting with all of you, generating discussions in both my and your comments, and finding out more about each of you. Once my boys get a little bigger, I can’t wait to start travelling again with my and meeting some of you in person. After all, I’ve spoken to several of you about hooking up either here in Canada, or when I’m travelling.

Also, I welcome any further thoughts in the comments section below.
